Abstract

Pyrimidine derivatives of the formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 have the indicated meanings, the salts thereof, and a process for the preparation thereof are described. Because of their sorbitol-accumulating activity, they are suitable as a tool in a pharmacological screening model for aldose reductase inhibitors.
