Abstract
Benzanilide derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is alkyl optionally containing double or triple bonds, and optionally interrupted by one or more hetero atoms; R.sup.2 is hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl; PA0 R.sup.3 is halogen, alkyl, --OY, --SY, or dimethylamino; R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are hydrogen, alkyl optionally containing double or triple bonds, or --(CH.sub.2).sub.m --Z, wherein: Z is --OCH.sub.3, --SCH.sub.3, --N(CH.sub.3).sub.2 or alkanoylamino, and m is 2, 3 or 4; PA0 X is oxygen, --OCH.sub.2 --, --S--, --SCH.sub.2 -- or --NR.sup.6 --; PA0 R.sup.6 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, or acyl; and PA0 Y is alkyl; are useful as anti-atherosclerotic agents.
