Abstract
A process for the preparation of a 2-alkylthio-1,3,4-thiadiazole of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 represents alkyl which is optionally substituted by halogen and PA0 R.sup.2 represents alkyl or aralkyl, which comprises reacting a carboxylic acid of the formula EQU R.sup.1 --COOH (II), with a dithiocarbazic ester of the formula ##STR2## in the presence of phosphoryl chloride (POCl.sub.3) at a temperature between -20.degree. C. and +120.degree. C.
