A colored, chemstrengthenable contrast enhancement, UV attenuated glass (e.g., for sunglasses) comprises, in weight percent, ______________________________________ Oxide Wt. % ______________________________________ SiO.sub.2 40-72 B.sub.2 O.sub.3 0-13 Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 0.5-3 Li.sub.2 O 0-3 Na.sub.2 O 8-13 K.sub.2 O 1-10 TiO.sub.2 8.0-9.5 CeO.sub.2 2.6-3.5 Nd.sub.2 O.sub.3 5-17 Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 1.40-2.10 CoO 0-0.07 NiO 0-0.4 CuO 0-0.5 Er.sub.2 O.sub.3 0-2 V.sub.2 O.sub.5 0-0.5 Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 0-0.25 ______________________________________ and has the following properties PA1 % T (2.0 mm) 400 nm: .ltoreq.2.2% PA1 % T (2.0 mm) 380 nm: 0.0% PA1 a: -1.0 to -7.5 PA1 b: +1.0 to +10.0.
