Abstract
An oxy-fuel system for reducing NO.sub.x formation in corrosive high temperature environments including a self-cooled adjustable oxy-fuel burner that generally produces a luminous flame having a concentric fuel rich phase and an outer surrounding oxidizer rich phase the flame directed through a precombustor mounted on the flame end of the burner the precombustor having a length to diameter (L/d) ratio fixed by the firing rate of the burner.
