Abstract

Compound of the Formula (I), (II), or (III): ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 is lower alkyl or 2"-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4'-ylmethyl; PA0 R.sup.2 is lower alkyl when R.sup.1 is 2"-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4'-ylmethyl; or R.sup.2 is 2"-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4'-ylmethyl when R.sup.1 is lower alkyl; PA0 R.sup.3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; PA0 X is hydrogen, lower alkyl, halogen, --C(O)CF.sub.3, --CO.sub.2 R.sup.4, or --C(O)NR.sup.5 R.sup.6 ; PA0 Y is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy, halogen, or --CO.sub.2 R.sup.4 ; PA0 Z is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, or halogen; with the proviso that Y and Z cannot be attached to the nitrogen atom in Formula (II); wherein PA1 R.sup.4 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; PA1 R.sup.5 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; PA1 R.sup.6 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; or PA1 R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached represent a heterocycle; and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, exhibit useful pharmacological properties, and are particularly useful as angiotensin II antagonists.
