Abstract

A low flammability nonaqueous electrolyte for use in electrochemical cells in which the electrolyte comprises a solute, such as LiCF.sub.3 SO.sub.3, dissolved in a mixture of 3-methyl-2-oxazolidone and at least one polyalkylene glycol ether, such as diglyme, and when said electrolyte in use in a lithium cell employing a cathode, such as FeS.sub.2, the cell will have good high rate performance even after being stored at high temperatures for prolonged periods of time.
