Abstract
Photographic coupler compositions comprise (a) a magenta dye-forming coupler compound, and (b) a sulfoxide compound or a sulfone compound in an amount sufficient to improve the light stability of a magenta dye formed from the magenta dye-forming coupler compound. The sulfoxide compound is of the formula ##STR1## and the sulfone compound is of the formula ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are individually selected from the group consisting of straight and branched chain alkyl groups, alkenyl groups and alkylene groups; straight and branched chain alkyl groups, alkenyl groups and alkylene groups containing at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of alkoxy, aryloxy, aryl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, acyloxy, carbonamido and carbamoyl groups and halogen atoms; a phenyl group; and a phenyl group containing at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, aryl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, acyloxy, carbonamido and carbamoyl groups and halogen atoms. Additionally, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 combined contain at least 12 carbon atoms. The photographic coupler compositions are free of phenol compounds.
