Abstract
A roll member of metal body is coated with a smooth glass layer sprayed thereon. The invention is also directed to a method for manufacturing a roll member of metal body having a glass surface, including preheating the surface of the metal body which is subject to a blast treatment to 200.degree..about.600.degree. C. with or without a stainless undercoat layer on the blast-treatment surface, spraying a glass material onto the surface of the metal body, and grinding the sprayed glass surface to form a smooth surface.
