Abstract
A damped gas displacement support system which includes an envelope of flexible, gas impervious material and a core of partially compressed, flexible cellular material occupying the space within the envelope, the cellular material compression being sufficient to establish a partial vacuum therein. When force is applied to the cell the partially compressed and partially evacuated core instantly seeks equilibrium about that area of the envelope receiving the applied force. Various system embodiments are described and illustrated, along with a preferred method for manufacturing the support cell.
