Abstract
Modified polymers in acid form or in the form of their salts consist of PA0 A) a carboxyl-containing copolymer prepared by emulsion polymerization and PA0 B) side radicals introduced therein by partial grafting onto the carboxyl groups and of the general formula I ##STR1## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 -alkyl, X is oxygen, sulfur or imino, Y is an ester, amide, ether or C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkylene group and 1<n.ltoreq.100 for the average number n of the monomer units undergoing addition per reacted acid function.
