Abstract
This invention claims a method for treating periodontal disease in mammals, including humans, by administering an effective amount of 4-amino-1-hydroxybutylidene-1,1-bisphosphonic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt including the monosodium salt tridydrate (alendronate) of the formula: ##STR1## The compounds are useful in the treatment of alveolar bone loss associated with peridontitis and periodontal disease.
