Abstract
A method and apparatus for molding optical elements in which a resin layer is accurately formed on a surface of a desired shape without the occurrence of peeling between a glass member and a resin layer and between a mold member and the resin layer when the resin layer is molded. This is accomplished by a first step of placing the glass member upon a supporting member, a second step of holding the glass member in a state in which the surface thereof is spaced away from the molding surface of the mold member by a predetermined distance, and a third step of moving the mold member and the supporting member relative to each other, after the resin material, which has been charged into a space defined by the molding surface and the surface of the glass member, has cured to a predetermined ratio of polymerization, in such a manner that glass member is supported on the resin layer independently.
