Abstract
Disclosed is a nematic liquid crystal mixture having a positive dielectric anisotropy .DELTA..epsilon. of at least +4 and a birefringence .DELTA.n of at least 0.18, said mixture comprising at least one fluorinated chloroterphenyl compound of formula I EQU R--E--Cl I wherein PA0 R is an alkyl or alkenyl radical having up to 15 C atoms, said radical being unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, one or more CH.sub.2 groups in the radical optionally being replaced, in each case independently of one another, by --O--, ##STR1## in such a manner that oxygen atoms are not linked directly to one another, and PA0 is ##STR2## or the mirror image thereof, and wherein the benzene rings can be optionally further substituted by fluorine.
