Abstract

The present invention relates to an absorbing and swelling agent for water, aqueous solutions and body liquids, which consists of a mixture of at least two components, whereby component A is at least a water-swellable, synthetic polymer or copolymer cross-linked with a polyfunctional compound, and component B is at least a polysaccharide selected from the group consisting of galactomannans or polygalactomannans, as well as galactomannan derivatives or mixtures thereof with other natural or synthetic polymers which at normal temperature are present as pourable powders or as fibrous materials and are only partially soluble or insoluble in water.
