Abstract
A method for oxidizing halogenated organic compounds comprising passing a mixture of the halogenated organic compound and excess oxygen over a catalyst comprising a carbonaceous material under mild reaction conditions. The temperature of the reaction is below 400.degree. C. and the catalyst may be doped with acidic redox-active metal compounds.
