Abstract
An aqueous pretreating composition for application to a metal surface, said composition having a pH of from about 3.4 to about 6, comprising at least about 0.01 percent by weight based the total weight of the composition of a substituted triazine compound selected from compounds having the structures: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 and, where applicable, R.sub.3 are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of --OH, --SH, --NH.sub.2, .dbd.O, an allyloxy group having 3-8 carbon atoms and a carboxy alkyl group having 2-8 carbon atoms.
