Abstract
A photographic element including a support bearing a silver halide photographic emulsion, at least one color-forming coupler and a masking coupler, wherein said masking coupler is represented by the formula A: EQU COUP--LINK--DYE (A) wherein COUP is a coupler moiety; PA1 LINK is any group releasable or cleavable from COUP by coupling with an oxidized developing agent during photographic processing; and DYE is an azoaniline dye and preferably an azoaniline dye blocked at the nitrogen-inclusive auxochromic site.
