Abstract
A windproof umbrella includes a post (14); a plurality of ribs (18) extending outwardly in a radial direction from the upper end of the post; a lower canopy (20) secured on the ribs (18); a plurality of vent holes (34) therethrough; and an upper canopy (36) positioned on the lower canopy (20) and covering all lower vent holes (34). The upper canopy (36) is smaller than the lower canopy (20). Elastic fastening straps (48) secure the upper canopy (36) to the free end portions of the ribs (18) for permitting the upper canopy to elastically lift up responsive to wind. The upper canopy (36) may include at least one vent hole (76) closer to the free ends of the ribs (18) than the lower vent holes (34). A plurality of slits (44) extending inwardly from the outer edge of the upper canopy (36) may be provided, each slit (44) being in line with one rib (18). A channel forming member (57) may be secured to the lower canopy (20) in surrounding relation to each lower vent hole (44) for further preventing entry of water therethrough.
