A synthetic lubricating oil comprising as a base oil at least one kind of a carbonic acid ester represented by the general formula (1) ##STR1## wherein all the symbols such as X.sup.1, A.sup.1, A.sup.2, B, R.sup.1, a, b, c and d are as defined in claim 1
