Abstract
The invention relates to 4-benzoylisoxazole derivatives of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R represents hydrogen or --CO.sub.2 R.sup.4 ; R.sup.1 represents alkyl, haloalkyl or optionally substituted cycloalkyl; PA1 R.sup.2 represents halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkyl substituted by one or more groups --OR.sup.5 ; or PA1 a group selected from nitro, cyano, --CO.sub.2 R.sup.5, --S(O).sub.p R.sup.6, --O(CH.sub.2).sub.m OR.sup.5, --COR.sup.5, --OR.sup.5 and --N(R.sup.8)SO.sub.2 R.sup.7 ; PA1 R.sup.3 represents --SO.sub.2 R.sup.7 ; PA1 X represents the oxygen atom; PA1 n represents zero or an integer from one to four; PA1 R.sup.4 represents alkyl or haloalkyl; PA1 R.sup.5 and R.sup.6, independently represent alkyl, haloalkyl or optionally substituted phenyl; PA1 R.sup.7 represents alkyl, haloalkyl, optionally substituted phenyl or --NR.sup.5 R.sup.6 ; PA1 R.sup.8 represents hydrogen, optionally halogenated alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl; cycloalkyl, optionally substituted phenyl, --SO.sub.2 R.sup.6 or --OR.sup.5 ; PA1 p represents zero, one or two; and PA1 m represents an integer from one to three; PA1 and their use as herbicides is described.
