Abstract
A method of making an air cathode material for a metal-air cell is provided. In the air cathode material of the present invention, manganese compounds of valence state +2 act as catalysts for the reduction of oxygen, and are distributed substantially evenly throughout a carbon matrix. Manganese compounds of valence state +2 form between carbon particles after the carbon particles are added to an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate.
