Abstract

Copolymers with non-linear optical properties, which contain or are composed of repeating units of the formula (I) ##STR1## where D is an electron donor, PA1 A is an electron acceptor, PA1 R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 can be the same as or different from one another, and are each H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, or R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are each CN, NO.sub.2 or CHO, or R.sup.1 forms with R.sup.2, or R.sub.3 forms with R.sup.4, a fused-on ring, PA1 X is CH and/or N, PA1 m is an integer from 2 to 11, and PA1 R is hydrogen or methyl, and repeating units of at least one of the formulae (II), (III) and (IV) ##STR2## are suitable for the production of optical components.
