Abstract
An electrical grounding system for an air conditioner which has substantially all components, except electrical and refrigeration circuit components, made from an electrically insulating material. The air conditioners indoor section includes a metal indoor heat exchanger and an indoor fan motor. The outdoor section includes a metal heat exchanger, an outdoor fan and a compressor. The indoor heat exchanger, outdoor heat exchanger and compressor are connected by electrically conducted tubing. A plastic electrical control box is mounted in the indoor section. The electrical control box has an electrically conductive grounding plate mounted in the interior thereof. Means are provided for interconnecting the ground lead from the units power service cord to the grounding plate. All electrical controls and other components in the indoor section are grounded directly to the grounding plate. An outdoor section grounding lead electrically interconnects the grounding plate with the outdoor heat exchanger. Means are provided for electrically grounding the outdoor fan motor to the outdoor heat exchanger.
