Abstract

There is disclosed a novel diaminostilbene series compound, a method for forming an image using the same, and a composition comprising the same. The diaminostilbene compound is represented by the following formula (I): ##STR1## wherein L.sup.1 and L.sup.2, which are the same or different, each represent --OR.sup.1 or --N--R.sup.2 (R.sup.3), wherein the four substituents L.sup.1 and L.sup.2 have four or more substituents in total selected from substituents represented by the following formula (II); PA1 R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an alkyl group having a substituent selected from substituents represented by the formula (II); PA1 R.sup.3 represents an alkyl group or an alkyl group having a substituent selected from substituents represented by the formula (II); and PA1 M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, an ammonium, or a pyridinium: PA0 formula (II) PA1 --SO.sub.3 M, --OSO.sub.3 M, --COOM, and --NR.sub.3 X wherein PA1 X represents a halogen atom, PA1 R represents an alkyl group, and PA1 M has the same meaning as M in formula (I).
