Abstract
A photographic material is disclosed comprising a support, at least one silver halide emulsion layer, and optionally one or more non-photosensitive hydrophylic layer(s), characterized in that at least one of said emulsion layer(s) and/or non-photosensitive layer(s) contains a triphenylmethane dye, absorbing around 670 nm, represented by general formula (ID) : ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each independently represents hydrogen unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, or unsubstituted or substituted aryl, PA1 R.sup.3 represents an electron-withdrawing group, and the substance contains at least two water-solubilizing groups, PA1 and X.sup.- represents an anion, or an intramolecular anionic group. The triphenylmethane dyes can serve as filter dye, acutance dye, or anti-halation dye. The claimed photographic materials are especially suited for exposure by a laser diode emitting at 670 nm.
