Abstract

Esters of monosaccharides and their lower alkyl glycosides are effective both as suffactants and as bleach activators (peracid precursors). The compounds are non-toxic and biodegradable. They act as nonionic suffactants and are effective in soil removal from textiles, e.g. of fatty soiling. In the presence of a hydrogen peroxide source, the sugar derivatives are perhydrolyzed during the washing process to form long-chain peracid. This enhances the bleaching effect, especially on hydrophobic stains.
