Abstract
A composition for dyeing keratinous fibers includes, in a suitable dyeing medium, at least one oxidation dye precursor and at least one coupler of formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 monohydroxyalkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 polyhydroxyalkyl, or alkylcarbonyl where the alkyl groups have one to four carbon atoms, or the acid addition salts thereof. Also disclosed is a method of dyeing hair using the disclosed composition, certain novel meta-aminophenols and the use of the latter as couplers.
