Abstract

Carbonates with aromatic ester groups may be prepared by reacting aromatic monohydroxy compounds with phosgene or with chloroformates of aromatic monohydroxy compounds, wherein the process is performed at a temperature in the range 50.degree.-350.degree. C. in the presence of aluminosilicates as heterogeneous catalysts.
