Abstract
The present invention provides compounds of formula II ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1a is --H or --OR.sup.7 in which R.sup.7 is a hydroxy protecting group; PA1 R.sup.2a is --H, halo, or --OR.sup.8 in which R.sup.8 is a hydroxy protecting group, providing when Z is --S--, R.sup.2a is not halo; PA1 R.sup.6 is --H or a hydroxy protecting group which can be selectively removed; and PA1 Z is --O-- or --S--; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, which are useful intermediates for the preparation of biologically active compounds.
