Abstract

A method and a coating are provided for attaining protection of a substrate being formed of chromium steel for a component of a turbomachine, against at least one of corrosive and erosive attack at a temperature up to approximately 500.degree. C. An aluminum-containing metal coating is applied to the substrate. At least the surface of the metal coating is hardened or age-hardened to form a protective coating containing aluminum.
