Abstract
Toluene-soluble modified natural resin esters suitable as binder resins in ground pigments and printing inks for halftone gravure printing prepared by reacting at least one compound from each of the following substance groups A) to D) PA0 A) natural resins and natural resin acids, PA0 B) monocyclic and polycyclic phenols which are polyfunctional towards oxo compounds, PA0 C) aldehydes and aldehyde acetals, PA0 D) alcohols having at least two hydroxyl groups, and, optionally, further compounds selected from the following substance groups: PA0 E) .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids and their anhydrides, PA0 F) fatty acids and fatty acid esters, PA0 G) ethylenically unsaturated monomers, PA0 H) ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon resins in the presence of PA0 I) lithium compounds at a temperature of from 100.degree. to 300.degree. C. with elimination of water.
