Abstract
The present invention provides for polynucleotides capable of producing recombinant hemoglobins that have a P.sub.50 of 26-36 torr. This invention makes possible the commercial production of wholly artificial hemoglobin, whether conventional or mutant in form, which can be used as blood substitutes.
