Abstract

In a process for chlorinating titanium containing material in a fluidized bed reactor which evolves gaseous material including CO, COS, and TiCl.sub.4, the improvement comprising introducing oxygen containing gas at a location or locations which are downstream of the surface of the bed, as measured in its static condition, to convert at least some CO to CO.sub.2 and some COS to CO.sub.2 and SO.sub.2.
