Abstract

Support system for the synthesis of oligonucleotides wherein the first nucleoside is bound to the support via a silylether linkage, especially of the formula ##STR1## wherein B is a nucleoside or deoxynucleoside base. PA1 R.sub.1 is a protecting group. PA1 R.sub.2 is --H, --OH, or --OR.sub.5, in which R.sub.5 is a protecting group. PA1 R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and X each represent alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, alkyloxy, aryloxy, cycloalkyloxy, alkenyloxy, aralkyloxy. PA1 S is a solid support, whereby not more than one of R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and X represent alkyloxy, aryloxy, cycloalkyloxy, alkenyloxy, aralkyloxy or cycloalkylalkyloxy.
