Abstract
The liquid crystal display device of the externally charging type in accordance with present invention, includes a layered structure with: in the following order, a conductive layer; a transparent high-electric resistance layer having the thickness of 0.1 to 50 .mu.m and having a volume resistivity of 10.sup.13 .OMEGA..cm or more in 20.degree. C. air at a relative humidity of 90%; a liquid crystal-dispersed polymer layer in which liquid crystal is finely dispersed in a polymermatrix and which has a volume resistivity of 10.sup.13 .OMEGA..cm or more in 20.degree. C. air at a relative humidity of 90%; and a transparent insulator layer. The liquid crystal display may be incorporated into a hand-writable liquid crystal board set which further includes: display means for displaying recording images onto the board surface of the liquid crystal board, and erasing means for erasing the recorded images; and a power source for generating a surface potential between the surface of the liquid crystal board and the conductive layer by the display means.
