Abstract

A pneumatic radial tire comprises a radial carcass ply toroidally extending between a pair of bead cores, a stiffener disposed above each bead core between the carcass ply and its turnup portion, and a rubber chafer arranged outside the turnup portion, provided that a ratio of cross-sectional area of the stiffener to cross-sectional area of the rubber chafer is not more than 0.5. In this tire, a sidewall-reinforcing rubber layer having a JIS A hardness of not less than 80.degree. is arranged along the carcass ply in a region ranging from a crown portion of the carcass ply to the bead core.
