Abstract
New compounds are described typically having the formula CH.sub.3 C(CH.sub.2 R).sub.3 or ZCH.sub.2 C(CH.sub.2 R).sub.3 where R is a fluorohydrocarbon or perfluorocarbon group, preferably containing 4-16 carbon atoms and more F atoms that H atoms. Z is a hydrophilic group which may make the compound self-emulsifiable. The compounds are useful as oxygen transport agents in vivo, for which purpose aqueous emulsions are used, as a blood substitute.
