Abstract
This invention relates to an improvement in a process for the catalytic amination of an allylic alcohol of the formula: EQU CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR--CH.sub.2 OH where R is hydrogen or methyl with ammonia or an amine of the formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 NH where R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent hydrogen or a C.sub.1-5 hydrocarbyl group in the presence of an effective amount of a phosphorous containing catalyst to effect reaction between the allylic alcohol and the ammonia or amine to produce an allylic amine. The improvement in the process resides in utilizing a neutral group IIA metal phosphate as a catalyst component. Calcium phosphate is preferred and the catalyst.
