Abstract

A coating composition useful for forming an electrically conductive layer on a substrate is disclosed, said composition comprising a liquid medium containing: a) a vanadium oxide gel, b) a film-forming binder, and c) a conductivity-increasing amount of a volatile aromatic compound comprising an aromatic ring substituted with at least one hydroxy group or a hydroxy substituted substituent group. Further embodiments of the invention disclose a composite support for an imaging element, which composite support comprises a polymeric film having coated thereon an electrically conductive layer, wherein the electrically conductive layer has been formed by applying a coating of the coating composition of the invention, and drying the coating. In accordance with yet a further embodiment of the invention, an imaging element for use in an image-forming process is described, which element comprises a support, an image-forming layer, and an electrically conductive layer, said electrically conductive layer having been formed by applying a coating of the coating composition of the invention, and drying the coating. The invention provides composite supports and imaging elements containing an electr…
