Abstract
An ablative recording element comprising a support having thereon, in order, a barrier layer and a colorant layer comprising a colorant dispersed in a polymeric binder, the element containing an infrared-absorbing material, and wherein the barrier layer is prepared from an aqueous latex dispersion of a polycyanoacrylate copolymer having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having from 1 to about 20 carbon atoms, PA1 VA is a vinyl monomer with a pendant ionizable group, and PA1 the weight ratios of x:y range from about 97:3 to about 70:30.
