Abstract
The invention relates to a new derivative of caffeic acid. This new derivative has the formula I below: ##STR1## in which one or more R independently represent a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl group, in particular methyl, and an acyl group, in particular a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 group, in particular acetyl. This new derivative called oraposide is particularly useful for the preparation of cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions, in particular dermatological compositions, as a result in particular of its activity against free radicals, inflammation and aging due to radiation exposure.
