The process of reducing the count of a virus by contacting the virus with PA1 (1) the reaction product of PA2 a) N-substituted propylenediamines corresponding to formula I: EQU R.sup.1 --NH--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --NH.sub.2 (I) PA2 In which R.sup.1 is a linear alkyl radical containing 12 to 14 carbon atoms, with PA2 b) compounds corresponding to formula II: ##STR1## in which R.sup.2 is an alkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a hydrogen atom, the molar ratio of a) to b) is 1:1 to 1:2 and the reaction is carried out over a period of 0.5 to 10 hours at 60.degree. C. to 175.degree. C. with elimination of alcohol or water, and optionally, PA1 (2) wherein the reaction product is further reacted with ethylene oxide or propylene oxide, and optionally, PA1 (3) salt formation of the products obtained in (1) or (2) with inorganic or organic acids.
