Abstract
A tufting machine belt driven gauging element drive assembly (5) for use with a tufting machine (7) is disclosed. The drive assembly includes a spindle assembly (24) rotatably supported on the tufting machine with respect to at least one elongate gauging element drive shaft (31, 34). The spindle assembly is rotated in timed relationship with the rotation of a tufting machine drive shaft (16) by a drive sprocket (20) mounted on the tufting machine drive shaft, a flexible timing belt (21) encircling the drive sprocket and a driven sprocket (23) formed as a part of the spindle assembly. The spindle assembly has at least one adjustable cam assembly (52a, 52b) affixed thereto and having a stub shaft (54a, 54b) formed as a part thereof which is parallel to and offset from the longitudinal axis of the spindle shaft, and which orbits the axis of the spindle shaft as the spindle shaft is rotated. An elongate drive pinion (58a, 58b) is pivotally fastened at one end to the stub shaft, the other end of the drive pinion being pivotally fastened to the first end of an elongate drive lever (66a, 66b) for transmitting the reciprocating motion of the drive pinion as a rocking motion to the drive le…
