Abstract

Process and device (1) for applying a thread (3) onto a support (9) while parting to the thread (3) a sinuous shape, which are characterized by the following features: a) the thread (3) is delivered with a controlled linear speed of value V.sub.1 ; b) the thread (3) is displaced transversely to its direction of advance; c) it is applied onto the support (9), the thread (3) and the support (9) at the contact being driven with a linear speed V.sub.2 which is less than V.sub.1 ; d) the conformation ratio of the thread (3) is thus defined by the ratio V.sub.1 /V.sub.2. Plies obtained by the process and device (1) of the invention. Articles, in particular tires, made using such plies.
