Abstract

Isotonic fat emulsions are provided which incorporate .omega.-3-fatty acids, .omega.-6-fatty acids, and medium-chain triglycerides. The emulsions are useful for parenteral application in post-aggression metabolism, in cases of chronic inflammatory diseases, and in neonatology and pediatrics. Due to the combination of .omega.-3-fatty acids and/or their physiologically acceptable esters with medium-chain-triglycerides, the medium-chain triglycerides are preferred to be oxidized in the organism, and the .omega.-3 fatty acids are protected from rapid oxidation, so that they are available to a higher extent for the formation of triply unsaturated eicosanoids. Furthermore, a liver protective effect is attained by the combination.
