Abstract

The invention relates to new substituted benzimidazoles of the general formula (I) ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 represents hydrogen, alkyl or optionally substituted aryl, PA1 R.sup.2 represents hydroxyl, cyano, alkoxy or optionally substituted amino, PA1 R.sup.3 represents perhalogenoalkyl, and PA1 X.sup.1, X.sup.2, X.sup.3 and X.sup.4, independently of one another, in each case represent hydrogen, halogen, nitro or optionally substituted aryloxy, but with at least one of the substituents X.sup.1, X.sup.2, X.sup.3 or X.sup.4 being different from hydrogen, PA1 with the exception of the compound 1-cyanomethyl-2-trifluoromethyl-5,6-dichlorbenzimidazole, to their preparation and to their use as agents for combating pests.
