Abstract
Disclosed is a low profile catheter shaft configuration for incorporation into any of a variety of catheters. The shaft comprises an inner collapsible tube coaxially disposed within an outer tube. The outer tube may be collapsible or relatively noncollapsible. The effect of the structure is to provide first and second side-by-side lumens with a movable wall extending axially therebetween. The first lumen may occupy more than half of the inside diameter of the shaft such as during advancement along a guidewire, and the second lumen may occupy more than half of the inside diameter such as following withdrawal of the guidewire and during inflation of a balloon. Methods are also disclosed.
