Abstract

Processes for preparing sulfonylureas Compounds of the formula I or salts thereof, ##STR1## in which X is oxygen, --O--NR.sup.2 -- or --SO.sub.2 --NR.sup.2 --, and Y is N or CH, PA1 R.sup.1 is (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6)alkenyl or (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6)alkynyl, which are in each case optionally substituted, or, in the case where X=oxygen, also (subst.) phenyl, PA1 R.sup.2 is H, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6)alkenyl or -alkynyl or (C.sub.3 -C.sub.6)cycloalkyl, PA1 R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are H, (subst.) (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl or (subst.) (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy or halogen, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylthio, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkylamino or di(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl!-amino, PA1 R.sup.5 is H or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl and R.sup.6 is hydrogen, may be prepared by reacting compounds of the formula II, EQU R.sup.1 --X--R.sup.7 (II) with compounds of the formulae III, IV and V EQU R.sup.8 --OCN (III) EQU SO.sub.2 Cl.sub.2 (IV) ##STR2## where R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 are H, a quarternary ammonium ion or one equivalent of a metal cation. The structure of the intermediate compounds has not been determined.
