Abstract
A video display terminal capable of operating with a graphical user interface such as Windows.RTM. provides windowing functionality to permit use of popular applications programs resident on a server, without requiring more than application data to be transmitted from the server, and keyboard and mouse information to be transmitted from the terminal to the server. In addition, a method for updating terminal operating characteristics over a communications link from a host is disclosed. Finally, method and apparatus are disclosed for implementing multiple personalities within a terminal and switching among such personalities.
